How a Wireless MPG Works

A manual pulse generator is a detented encoder. Each click emits one quadrature pulse pair, and the control counts those pulses as increments of the selected axis at the selected step size. Nothing about that changes here: the handwheel, the axis selector and the ×1 / ×10 / ×100 multiplier work exactly as an operator expects.

What changes is the link. The pendant transmits over a radio link to a receiver that wires into the machine's existing handwheel input, so the control still sees a conventional MPG. Range is 50 m, which covers the machine and the space around it on a normal shop floor.

Removing the cable removes the failure it causes: a trailing lead that catches on fixtures, gets crushed under a pallet, or fails intermittently at the strain relief. It also lets the operator move to where the tool and workpiece are actually visible during setup and first-part proving.

Before You Order

  • Name the control and its model on the order. The receiver wiring differs between platforms and is not a field change.
  • Confirm the machine has an MPG input available. A machine already using its handwheel input for a panel-mounted wheel needs that input freed or switched.
  • 50 m is line-of-sight on a normal shop floor. Dense metal enclosures and heavy welding activity nearby will shorten it.
