How to choose
Motor-driven or hand-lever
The GM, ZD, ZJ, PJ and AP types are all motor-driven, built to hold an unattended dosing schedule across a shift. The NKGH Type is the exception: a hand-lever pump delivering 1.2 or 1.8 cc per stroke at 10 MPa, sized for a single point checked by hand or, just as commonly, used to fill the reservoir on a PJ Series pump rather than to run a centralised circuit itself.
Pressure class decides the grease grade
Grease pumps in this range fall into two pressure classes, and the grade of grease that belongs in each follows from it. The GM Type (260–300 cc/min, built-in pressure take-off) and PJ Series (8.0 MPa at 20 mL/min) sit in a moderate-pressure band suited to NLGI 00# and 000# semi-fluid grease. The ZJ Series is built for the far end: rated 30 MPa, with one or two independent piston mechanisms, it is the pump specified where a progressive circuit needs to run NLGI 000# through 2# grease. Loading a heavier grade into a pump sized for the lighter one is a common and costly mistake: match the pump's rated pressure to the grade before anything else.
The NKGH hand-lever pump handles NLGI 000# to 1#, and the ZD Type (a medium-pressure piston pump rated 18 MPa) sits between the GM/PJ band and the ZJ's high-pressure band.
Machine-tool circuits versus vehicle and mobile plant
The GM, ZJ and PJ types are specified for CNC, injection-moulding and heavy-machinery centralised circuits, powered from the machine's own AC supply (PJ additionally offers AC 220 V, AC 380 V or DC 24 V). The ZD and AP types are built the other way round: DC 12 V/24 V pumps drawing on a vehicle's own electrical supply, for chassis lubrication on mobile plant rather than a fixed machine tool. The ZD carries an IP65 rating for that duty; the AP delivers 260 ml/min at 3.5–3.8 MPa from a 3 L reservoir sized to fit on a chassis.
Matching the pump to a distributor
The GM Type is specified to pair with 35 Type volumetric distributors and RH3 Type inspecting volume distributors in their grease builds. The PJ Series ships in two builds for exactly this reason: one with a pressure relief valve for a volumetric circuit, one without for a progressive circuit, so the pump build has to match the distributor architecture downstream rather than the other way round. The ZJ Series is built specifically to drive high-pressure progressive circuits, where its time-programme or time-travel controller and pressure/level switches give a PLC something to monitor.
Monitoring and remote alarms
Where a circuit needs to report its own health rather than run on faith, several of these pumps carry the hardware for it: the GM Type has a 24 VDC grease level sensor with alarm plus an inching switch for on-demand lubrication between cycles, the ZJ Series adds pressure and level switches for remote monitoring, and the PJ Series can take a low-level alarm switch on request and is driven either by the machine's own PLC or its own controller.

What grease grade should I run in a centralised system?
As general guidance, match the grade to the pump's pressure class rather than picking on habit. Moderate-pressure pumps like the GM Type and PJ Series are built around semi-fluid NLGI 00#/000# grease; the ZJ Series is rated 30 MPa specifically so a high-pressure progressive circuit can run heavier NLGI 000#–2# grease. Loading a heavier grade than the pump and distributor are rated for is a common cause of stalled circuits.
What's the difference between the ZD and ZJ grease pumps?
The ZD Type is a medium-pressure piston pump rated 18 MPa, built for chassis lubrication on vehicles and mobile plant. The ZJ Series is rated 30 MPa with one or two independent piston mechanisms, built to drive high-pressure progressive circuits carrying NLGI 000# to 2# grease.
Can the NKGH manual pump replace a motor-driven grease pump?
It isn't built to. The NKGH Type is a hand-lever pump sized for a single point dosed by hand, or for filling the reservoir on a PJ Series pump. It doesn't hold an unattended dosing schedule the way the motor-driven types do.
